Avocado case study
Location: Peru
Europe consumes over 813,000 tonnes of avocados each year, with 98% imported, mostly from Peru. This case study explores avocado production across different Peruvian biomes, comparing ecosystems to identify environmental hotspots and improve how these impacts are reported.
It will also examine the environmental cost of transporting avocados across continents, applying new methods to assess land use, emissions, and resource consumption in global food trade.
By connecting international production practices with advanced assessment tools, this case study supports more transparent, globally aware food systems.
