Europe’s food processing industry is massive, with 294,000 firms generating over €1 trillion annually. But how do we assess the true environmental footprint of complex food products made from multiple ingredients?
That’s exactly what FOODTURE is tackling in France, with a case study led by ACTIA. The study focuses on multi-ingredient food stuffs—like ready-to-eat meals or canned dishes—using the framework and inventories developed in Work Package 1.
Each ingredient in these products has its own footprint. The researchers of this case study will combine those data points into a reliable impact assessment to ensure accurate and transparent evaluation of even the most processed foods.
FOODTURE is advancing Life Cycle Assessment for multi-ingredient products. This paves the way for better eco-design, smarter labels, and clearer information for both consumers and producers.
