How can we better measure emissions from poultry farms? In Belgium, FOODTURE is putting olfactive drone technology to the test.
As part of Work Package 2, this case study will validate the use of drones equipped with gas sensors to monitor emissions from a poultry production site. The site is already outfitted with continuous point emission sensors, providing a reliable reference dataset.
To ensure accuracy and efficiency, the drone will perform repeated flights. This means: several times per day, across multiple days, testing different flight patterns and data integration methods. This will allow the team to assess the added value of UAV-based monitoring, comparing results with both traditional emission sensors and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies.
This high-tech approach aims to enhance how we monitor and manage air pollution from livestock farming. It opens the door to smarter, data-driven solutions across the agri-food sector.
